Check if the money-back guarantee applies to you

Answer a few questions and we'll show you exactly where you stand — and what you'd need to do to stay covered.

Step 1

Which report are you ordering?

The guarantee works a little differently for each.

Is the vehicle leased?

Leased vehicles aren't covered by the diminished value guarantee.

Mileage and model year?

The diminished value guarantee covers vehicles under 100,000 miles from the last five model years — currently 2021 or newer.

Any prior accident history on the vehicle?

Undisclosed damage from before this loss isn't covered.

Whose insurance are you claiming against?

Diminished value is normally a claim against the driver who hit you.

Has the insurer already made you an offer?

For diminished value — has the insurer offered you anything for the lost value yet?

How much did they offer?

We'll show you exactly what your claim would need to reach for the guarantee to pay out. Nothing is saved or sent.

How it works

How the money-back guarantee works

We measure additional recovery — the difference between the insurer's first offer and the final settlement after you submit our report.

Use the report

Submit it as part of your diminished value claim or total loss dispute, and negotiate in good faith.

Compare first offer to final

If the increase comes to less than $1,000, you qualify for a full refund of the report fee.

One exception: if the insurer had already made a diminished value offer, the threshold is the $350 report fee instead of $1,000.

Ask within 60 days

Open a support ticket with proof of the initial offer and the final settlement. Refunds land within 5 business days.

Total lossWhat counts as recovery

Final base vehicle value − initial base vehicle value

Base value only — taxes, title, registration and other fees are excluded from both sides so the comparison is like for like.

Under $1,000 difference? Full refund.

Valued at $26,000? Settle under $27,000 and we refund the fee.
Claiming on your own policy? Invoke the appraisal clause if they won’t move.

Diminished valueWhat counts as recovery

Final diminished value settlement − initial offer

No initial offer? We guarantee at least $1,000 in recovery. Under that and you get a full refund — no court filing needed.

An offer already exists? That amount is your baseline. If your additional recovery above it is less than the $350 report fee, you get a full refund.

Offered $500? Settle under $850 and we refund the fee.
File in small claims with the report and we guarantee $1,500 — their offer plus $1,000.

Know before you order

Money-back guarantee eligibility by report type

Diminished value has vehicle limits. Total loss doesn't. Check the column that matches your claim.

Diminished value Seven exclusions apply
  • Leased vehiclesDiminished value belongs to the owner, so on a lease there is no claim for you to make — and no guarantee coverage.
  • Over 100,000 milesHigh-mileage vehicles are excluded.
  • First-party claims outside GeorgiaMost policies exclude diminished value from your own coverage, so the claim is likely denied — and a denial on those grounds is not covered.
  • Older than the last five model yearsCurrently 2020 and older. Too little value left to lose.
  • Undisclosed prior accidentsDamage from before this loss must be disclosed.
  • Property damage limits used upIf the at-fault driver's coverage went to repairs, nothing remains for a diminished value claim.
  • Uninsured or immune at-fault partyIncluding bodies that don't allow diminished value claims, such as some government entities.

Confirm with the insurer that you can pursue a diminished value claim under the policy and your state's law before you order. We can check that for you.

Total loss No vehicle exclusions
  • No mileage limitAny mileage qualifies.
  • No model-year limitOlder vehicles are fine.
  • Leased vehicles includedOwnership isn't a requirement here.
  • Prior accident history is fineAs long as it's disclosed accurately.

The one catch: the guarantee won't apply if the VIN, make, model or year you submitted was incorrect or inconsistent.

Staying covered

Required claim steps to stay covered

The report has to be used in good faith. Accepting an offer without negotiating, or not letting us help, disqualifies the guarantee.

Total loss — required steps
  1. Share the insurer's offer for the vehicle value only, excluding taxes, title, registration and other add-ons, so both sides can be compared consistently.
  2. Negotiate for a better payout using the report — submit it and actively follow up.
  3. Invoke the appraisal clause if the offer still isn't fair and your policy has one. This is required to show a good-faith effort.
  4. Share the final settlement once the property damage release is signed, so we can confirm the outcome.
Diminished value — required steps
  1. Provide the initial insurance offer if one exists, when you order. If you don't share one, we'll assume no diminished value offer has been made.
  2. Submit the claim and negotiate in good faith — respond to questions, counteroffers and document requests.
  3. Forward insurer responses to open a support ticket so our team can help you reply.
  4. Don't simply accept or walk away. Accepting an offer without negotiating, or dropping the claim after a denial without letting us review it, disqualifies the guarantee.
What "good-faith negotiation" means

You submitted the SnapClaim report to the insurer, responded to reasonable follow-up questions or counteroffers, and gave them a fair chance to reconsider the valuation.

Simply submitting the report with no follow-up doesn't meet the standard. If you need help, attach the insurer's response to a support ticket with your report and we'll help draft a reply.

Other eligibility requirements
  • The report must be for a diminished value or total loss (fair market value) claim.
  • You provide proof of the insurer's initial offer, if one exists, before ordering the report.
  • You acted in good faith and supplied the necessary claim documentation.
  • You made a genuine effort to negotiate, and asked our team for help if needed.
Refund terms
  • Refunds go to the original payment method only.
  • Requests must be made within 60 days of report delivery.
  • Applies to diminished value and total loss (fair market value) appraisals only.
  • SnapClaim may verify recovery documentation before processing.

Refunds will not be issued if: you didn't provide the insurer's initial offer when one existed, the claim wasn't pursued in good faith, or the report was altered, misused or submitted without the required documentation.

How to request a refund
  1. Open a support ticket within 60 days of receiving your report.
  2. Include proof of the final outcome — either a signed release of liability, or an email to the adjuster copying your support ticket confirming you're no longer pursuing the claim.
  3. We review and refund to your original payment method within 5 business days.

Questions

Money-back guarantee FAQ

Should I negotiate before ordering a report?

In most cases, no. Negotiating without an independent valuation makes it harder for the insurer to revise their position later, once a stance is established.

For total loss, wait for the insurer's valuation report (CCC or Mitchell), then run a free SnapClaim estimate. If there's a meaningful gap, order the full report.

What if the insurer never made an offer?

Your claim is then measured on total recovery. For diminished value we guarantee at least $1,000 in recovery — no court filing required. If your final recovery is under $1,000, you get a full refund.

What if I already got a diminished value offer?

That amount becomes the baseline. If your additional recovery after using the report is less than the report fee, we refund it in full. If you file in small claims court using the report as evidence, we guarantee at least $1,000 above the initial offer.

What if the insurer refuses to increase their offer at all?

You may still qualify, as long as you submitted the report, negotiated in good faith, and can show the initial and final amounts. If the increase falls under the thresholds above, the refund applies.

Do I have to go to court?

No. Court is never required for total loss, and not required for diminished value when there was no initial offer. Filing only matters in one case: if a diminished value offer already exists and you want the $1,000 guarantee rather than a report-fee refund.

My car was totaled — do I have to invoke the appraisal clause?

If your policy has one and negotiations stall, yes. It demonstrates a good-faith effort to resolve the dispute and is required to stay eligible on total loss claims.

What if I accept the offer and stop pursuing the claim?

If you close the claim or accept an offer without completing the required steps, the guarantee doesn't apply.

Are all vehicles eligible?

No. The diminished value guarantee excludes leased vehicles, over 100,000 miles, model years older than the last five, and undisclosed prior accident history. It also does not cover first-party claims outside Georgia, where policies normally exclude diminished value from your own coverage. Total loss has no mileage or model-year limits, but the guarantee will not apply if the VIN, make, model or year submitted was incorrect or inconsistent.
